Finding Sappho: A Photo Expedition (pre-production)
When you think of the great classical artists of the world, you probably think of men. Michelangelo. Turner. Picasso. Yet art has long provided women a space to explore their sexuality and control how they’re represented. By researching then recreating classical art that depicts WLW (women loving women) and female sexuality, feature documentary Finding Sappho: A Photo Expedition modernizes women’s power of self-representation, creating an inclusive space for diverse women of all backgrounds.
Finding Sappho: A Photo Expedition is a film documenting the creative process of recreating paintings that heavily emphasize sapphic, or WLW (women loving women) representation and female sexuality overall through the use of photography. WLW and general female representation in art, film, literature and music and how all subjects tie in together will also be discussed through the use of interviews, demonstrations etc.
